The goal of environmental protection is to reduce the effects of adverse human activities and preserve clean and healthy environment for future generations.
UAB “Dirbtinis pluoštas” is constantly focused on solving relevant ecological issues. The objective of the company’s environmental protection policy is to organise production in the manner so as to prevent any violations of the Law on Environmental Protection of the Republic of Lithuania, the environmental standards and norms and to continuously keep the costs in connection with raw materials, materials and energy per production unit reducing.
The key legislation which governs environmental protection and relates to the company’s business is as follows: the Law on Ambient Air Protection of the Republic of Lithuania, the Law on Environmental Monitoring of the Republic of Lithuania, the Law on Chemical Substances and Preparations of the Republic of Lithuania, the Law on Waste Management of the Republic of Lithuania, the Law on the Management of Packaging and Packaging Waste of the Republic of Lithuania, the Law on Environmental Pollution Tax of the Republic of Lithuania and the LAND 43-2013 standards of emissions from combustion plants. As part of legal and other undertakings assumed, the company improves the management of its technological process, implements pollution prevention measures and improves the efficiency thereof, trains and encourages staff to work consciously protecting the environment.
A volatile solvent (acetone) is used for the production of yarn. The company has a huge solvent regeneration unit which regenerates around 90% of acetone. Through the application of ongoing supervision and emission control, it is sought to keep the active acetone regeneration plant in a working order and use it in a rational manner.
Much focus goes to controlling emissions of polluting substances into air and sewage. Following the Environmental Monitoring Programme of UAB “Dirbtinis pluoštas” approved by the Pollution Prevention and Authorisations Department of the Environmental Protection Agency (on 12/08/2015), the monitoring of air emissions from emission sources and of pollutants released with sewage gets carried out and measurements are taken at work stations. The results obtained are analysed and they are the basis for business programmes, any projects to be undertaken and ecological measures to be invoked in order to reduce adverse effects on the environment.
Following an environmental pollution assessment (pollution diffusion modelling underground) carried out, it has been determined that the air pollution caused by the company does not exceed the permitted limit values in the sanitary protection area and the air of residential environment.
1,231.027 t of emissions were released into ambient air in 2015, i.e. 289.284 t (19 %) less than in 2014. Permitted ambient air pollution values and the pollution management conditions have been established in the Emission Allowance No. TL-K.4-35/2015 (2015-08-12) issued to the company.
One of the key priorities in the environmental protection field is the stabilisation and reduction of green-house gas. Following the launch of a new thermal pump in the production process, the company is now able to fully meet its heat energy needs using heating water. The water circulating in the system gets warm during the cooling process. Thanks to the thermal pump, heat is taken from the circulating water and used for the preparation of heating water. Since when a steam boiler was launched in 2015, efficient and modern production of heat energy has been ensured using steam. To save heat energy and reduce environmental emissions generated in the course of combustion process, a condensing economiser has been fitted to the gas steam boiler.
The status of environmental protection is improved on an on-going basis thanks to the management of chemical substances/compounds and waste. The chemical unit has a dye storage room built; any waste generated in the course of the business gets collected and sorted. In order to reduce any harmful effect on the environment and the quantity of waste ending in the landfill as well as to make savings on natural resources and waste management costs, the company started sorting mixed municipal waste by collecting paper, plastic and glass separately in 2015.
The environmental protection activities undertaken by UAB “Dirbtinis pluoštas” have been declared compliant with the environmental management standard ISO 14001 and a certificate thereof has been issued to the company. The certifying body performs an external audit of the environmental management system every year. The system ensures that the company’s environmental protection policy is implemented and the goals thereof are achieved.
